Project Hulmahan Overview
On March 15, 2020, life as we knew it came to a grinding halt when our entire country was placed under lockdown. Caught unprepared, few of us were left untouched by what would turn out to be the world’s longest COVID-19 lockdown. As we grieved over the tremendous loss of lives and loved ones, many suffered other deep losses too: that of jobs, livelihoods, and even hope.
But once again, we Filipinos proved to be unyielding. The pandemic only served to reignite our Bayanihan spirit. As we took care of ourselves, we also looked out for others, sharing what little we had through mutual aid initiatives like the community kitchens and pantries. This unwavering sense of CommUNITY was the beacon of light and kindness that led us out of those dark days.
Bayanihang Marikenyo at Marikenya (BM+M) and the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Greater Los Angeles (UPAAGLA) team up to bring PROJECT HULMAHAN to Los Angeles.
